Workshop on standardisation of organic products held

Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) in association with Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur organised a one-day workshop on Standardisation of Organic Products and Food Processing in Manipur' at the conference hall of the Directorate of Horticulture, Sanjenthong here on Saturday.
The workshop was attended by Health Services retired additional director Dr S Manikanta, Manipur University Department of Political Sciences head Prof Rajen Singh Laishram; CSRI-CFTRI, Mysore chief scientist Dr Ng Iboyaima, CSIR-NEIST senior principal scientist Dr Huidrom Birkumar, AIMS president Mayanglangbam Khelendro and MOMA member secretary Hari Charan.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr S Manikanta remarked that adulteration of food items has led to rise of new diseases.
However, people are getting increasingly aware about organic products and avoiding adulterated food items, including those with high chemical contents, attributed to pesticides/fertilisers.
Thus, more emphasis needs to be given towards production of organic items, he suggested.
In his speech, MOMA member secretary Hari Charan highlighted about the Agency's activities in increasing the yield of organic produces and exporting the same, to help increase the income of farmers.
