Over 60 houses flooded in Jiribam district

Jiribam, May 15 2022:
More than 63 houses have been inundated and four houses swept away at several low-lying places of Jiribam district even as canals linked to Jiri River are overflowing due to incessant rainfall.
Some villages have been cut off as water from the ever-increasing Jiri River swept away roads.
Khutchoi Khup area of Sorok Atingbi Kamaraaga Muslim village is the worst hit as 59 houses are under flood water and four others swept away by the river current.
Around 340 villagers of the area have also been shifted to safer location since Saturday evening and most of them are taking shelter at a relief camp opened at nearby Kamaranga Muslim Youth Club.
Meanwhile, local MLA and other elected representatives like pradhan and ZP member are contributing relief materials for the affected villagers.
Officials of district administration, local pradhan and ZP member inspected the flood affected places on Sunday.
On the other hand, the road leading to Islamabad from Dibong junction and Champanagar from Champanagar Mahadev junction has been inundated while majority of the paddy fields in the district have been flooded thereby destroying standing crops.
