Assam Rifles honours martyrs, sanitises Khenjoi

Assam Rifles held a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Joupi to pay tribute to the brave-hearts who laid down their lives fighting against the Chinese in 1965 in Sikkim.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the ceremony was held in honour of lieutenant MD Uniyal, lance naik Tika Ram, and riflemen Bhim Singh, Dhan Singh, Lachhan Singh, Balbir Singh, and Raghubir Singh Chhetri, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers, JCOs, and jawans, collectively paying homage to the fallen heroes, the PRO said in a release.
In another release, the PRO informed that as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Assam Rifles conducted a Swachhata Pakhwada in Khengjoi Sub Division, Chandel on Thursday to promote cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation in nearby villages while raising awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.
The campaign attracted 168 local villagers, Assam Rifles personnel, and students from across the Area of Responsibility (AoR).
The initiative included multiple small-scale events that engaged various audience categories over two weeks.
The day began with a cleanliness drive involving community members, volunteers, and local village authorities.
The community was educated on the importance of waste segregation and provided training on how to segregate waste.
Additionally, sanitation and hygiene practices such as hand washing and proper toilet use were promoted, followed by a tree plantation thrive aimed at enhancing greenery and beautify public spaces.
