Desk cleared for Imoinu fish fair today

Greeting the people on the occasion of Imoinu Iratpa, Fisheries minister Heikham Dingo Singh announced that Fisheries Department is all set to host its annual Imoinu Fish Fair on at Hapta Kangjeibung on Saturday.
Minister Dingo said that Imoinu Iratpa is celebrated annually by the Meetei on the 12 day of Manipuri lunar month of Wakching, marking it with prayers for peace and prosperity in the region.
As fish is vital for Imoinu Iratpa, Fisheries Department with an aim to provide fish at affordable rates, is organising a fish fair at Hapta Kangjeibung on Saturday.
The event will feature 120 stalls including stalls dedicated to internal displaced persons and avail 80,000 kg of fish.
'Sareng' and 'Nung-nga' fish will also be available during the fish fair, Dingo informed, while appealing to the people to be part of the fair.
Minister Dingo highlighted that the state's fish production has increased, leading to a reduced reliance on external supplies.
This is due to efforts of the Fisheries Department and fish farmers, resulting in a decrease in import expenses; from Rs 400 crore to Rs 200 crore annually," he said informing that the department is also planning to reduce the import of fish supply in the state.
