Thoubal, September 08 2022:
Students of Heirok Higher Secondary School took out a protest rally under the blazing sun demanding posting of adequate teachers to the school on Thursday.
The students began the rally from the school campus and marched up to Heirok Keithel, before returning to the school campus.
The aggrieved students held placards inscribed with slogans like 'Ensure proper education to us', 'Fill up the vacant teachers', 'No education without teacher' and 'No teacher no future' among others.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Class XII student Abujam Lenin informed that the school has more than 1000 students.
Contrary to requirement of no less than 90 teachers, there were only 40 teachers out of which 16 have been transferred from the school in the last few months and eight teachers retired.
In-spite of such a dire situation, the authorities have failed to send replacement teachers, he lamented.
Informing that they had brought up the matter to the notice of authorities concerned numerous times, he said that authorities have turned a deaf ear and are still not sending the required teachers.
"How will we learn without teachers?" he posed, while urging authorities concerned to look into the matter.
A guardian who identified himself as M Tomba said that most of the students studying in Heirok Higher Secondary School are from poor families.
The students are enrolled in the government schools as their parents could not send their children to private schools due to financial problems.
It is unfortunate that the students are being deprived of their education due to lack of teachers, he denounced.
Pointing out that Heirok Higher Secondary School has the highest pass percentage among the government schools in Thoubal district in the HSLC examination, 2022, he appealed to the education department and authorities concerned to fulfil the demands of the students.
