State handloom exhibition begins

Imphal, January 07 2022: A 15-day State Handloom Expo 2021-22 organised by Manipur Apex Handioom Weavers & Handicrafts Artisans CS Ltd under the joint aegis of NHDP and Development Commissioner for Handlooms, ministry of textiles, began at Public Library ground here on Friday.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Manipur Apex HL Weavers & HC Artisans CS Ltd president A Ronika informed that weavers have been producing clothes since time immemorial.

Weavers have occupied a special space in the society because of their collective effort, she noted, while lauding departments concerned and societies for helping the weavers.

While informing that directorate of handioom and textiles has been helping the weavers in formation of Weaver Cooperative Society, she further said that NHPC too helped the weavers by providing required raw materials.

The inaugural function was attended by Co-operative Societies Manipur assistant registrar T Ratan, Weavers Service Centre assistant director (Weaving) M Ibohal, Directorate of Handioom and Textiles assistant director (Handioom) A Shimray, NHDC office in-charge Y Shantikumar, AWAS managing director Th Dinamani and Manipur Public Library custodian K Chaoba.
