Free screening, awareness on viral hepatitis held

As a part of World Hepatitis Day observance, National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP) of District Health Society, Thoubal in collaboration with Rural Voluntary Services, TI Project Wangjing organised a "one-day free screening and awareness programme on viral hepatitis" at Mangal Rehabilitation Centre, Wangjing Lamding on Tuesday.
The programme was attended by Thoubal chief medical officer Dr Y Nokul Singh, NHM, Thoubal district programme manager Ch Basanta Singh and DNO NVHCP Dr RK Kamala Devi as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Dr Y Nokul highlighted the importance of ascertaining status of viral hepatitis and called upon the public to avail free testing and treatment services under NVHCP while Dr RK Kamala Devi explained the importance of early screening, diagnosis and treatment and prevention of viral hepatitis and also elaborated on routes of transmission and importance of vaccination.
In all, 30 people were screened for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV during the programme.
