Imphal, October 05 2024:
On Friday, Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA), the apex body of Karbi Literature Society, submitted a memorandum to the chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) expressing concern over the influx of Kuki refugees from Manipur due to the ongoing crisis between the Meetei and Kuki communities.
KLA highlighted that displaced Kukis are occupying areas within Singhason and Khonbamon hills, which belong to Karbi Anglong.
KLA urged the KAAC not to grant land to the Kuki refugees and called for establishment of temporary camps under state supervision.
They also requested the district and state authorities to identify the influx and deport the refugees once the situation in Manipur stabilises.
The memorandum emphasised the protection of Karbi ancestral land and called for urgent intervention from the authorities.
