Truck grazes HT line, catches fire

Noney, October 03 2024: A moving truck laden with aluminium pots caught fire after coming into contact with a low-hanging 11kV high-tension electric wire on Thursday around 11:30 am.

The truck coming from Jiribam side accidentally grazed the power line in between Kambiron and Barak Bridge, Sibilong, near Nungba police station in Noney district.

The driver suffered minor injuries and received first aid at a nearby CRPF camp before being referred to Silchar.

Locals managed to extinguish the flames and save the truck, despite significant damage to its rear tyres and some body parts.

The truck (MZ- 02A4721) was driven by Rahmat Ali Mazumdar, son of Nurul Islam Mazumdar from Madhurbond, Silchar, Assam.

Notably, a similar incident occurred at the same spot in 2022 .

Following this latest occurrence, local witnesses and transporters have urged the electricity department to rectify the issue promptly by installing taller electric poles to prevent accidents and ensure safety of the community.
