ZSF condemns principal's attempt to shift IGNOU Study Grcle

Imphal, May 27 2021: The Zomi Students' Federation (ZSF) has expressed strong condemnation against Churachandpur College principal Dr Th Siamkhum alleged intention to scrap IGNOU Study Centre from the college.

A release of the Federation issued by its information and publicity wing said that the principal had on April 12, 2021 issued an office memo to requisition the room of IGNOU Study Circle which then led to the cancellation of Churachandpur College as an IGNOU examination centre.

It said that a tussle was on between the college principal and regional director of IGNOU Regional Centre, Imphal, on the issue of appointment of coordinator, which got exacerbated by "requisition of room" office memo written by the Principal to the Regional Director.

"The ZSF is of the opinion that Dr Siamkhum deserves a severe rebuke for the manner in which he handled the issue, and to satisfy his inflated ego, how he seeks to "shift out", in his own words, IGNOU Study Centre from Churachandpur, thereby jeopardising the career of many students," said the release.

The students' body urged the IGNOU Regional Centre Imphal to cancel any decision taken in the matter and restore the room of IGNOU Study Circle and appoint a coordinator at the earliest to look after the affairs of the centre.

"Any further delay will erode the credibility of the Regional Centre and cast a long shadow of doubt on the director's integrity and ability to manage the affairs of the centre," it said.

Stating that hundreds of students enrolled for various diplomas, bachelor's and master's programs offered by the university every year, and obtaining certificates from the university which enable one to get job or promotion while some choose to pursue further education, IGNOU Churachandpur is one successful education centre.

The federation also warned that this issue is a reminder and warning to all that few assets of the district must be protected at all cost.

A prized asset like the IGNOU Study Centre is to be treasured and not something which responsible person with a sense of accountability can toy around, it added.
