Imphal, June 25 2021:
All Manipur Progressive Farmers' Association (AMPFA) has submitted a memorandum to the agriculture director urging for taking up necessary measures to ensure adequate and easy availability of agricultural inputs in view of the arrival of the paddy sowing season.
Informing this in a statement, AMPFA said that farmers are among the worst affected group of people by the Covid pandemic as their activities are time bound and have to be carried out in their respective time.
With rainy season setting in the state, farmers have begun their agricultural works but there are still several areas where fields are dry, the statement pointed out and drew attention of the department to take up timely initiatives for ensuring irrigation facility in those areas.
Moreover, Urea has been an issue in the state every year and farmers often have to waste two to three days and stand in long queue post-midnight to get a bag of urea, the association reminded.
Expressing concern over the situation, the association urged the department to open more fertiliser outlets in different areas so that farmers can easily get their share of fertiliser without going far from their homes.
