Workshop on drugs, illicit trafficking held

A district level awareness workshop on 'Joint Action Plan on Drugs and Substance Abuse among Children and Illicit Trafficking' was jointly organised by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) at Thambal Marik College, Oinam conference hall as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on Friday.
The programme facilitated by Seva Bharati Manipur was attended by MCPCR chairperson Ph Manibabu Sharma, Bishnupur DC Ranjan Yumnam, DSP (operations) L Shantikumar Singh and College principal Dr Th Binarani Devi as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, MCPCR chairperson Ph Manibabu Sharma stressed that the time has come to collectively work for stopping crime against women and menace of drug abuse amongst the youth in the state, otherwise our society will be in great danger.
On the other hand, DC Ranjan Yumnam noted that due to poor economic condition of the state, many have taken up drug trafficking and peddling as livelihood.
He also stated that from time to time review meetings will be held in connection with the issue of drug abuse amongst youths in consultation with district level officials, schools and boarding operators in the district.
