Imphal, January 23 2024:
To let people of India as well as the world know about the present unrest situation in Manipur and suffering of the indigenes, Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) has appealed for hoisting black flags at residences, shops, Meira sheds, clubs, markets and public places on Republic Day.
In a release, PPCM publicity convenor Brojen Meitei exhorted the people to hoist black flags simultaneously from 9.30 am onwards to express strong condemnations of the persistent attempts being made by Kuki militants to disrupt the unity and integrity of Manipur, which has ultimately resulted in eruption of violence since May 3 and the failure of the central government to resolve the crisis for nearly nine months now.
The central government has been turning a blind eye to the attacks launched by Kuki militants on the indigenous communities of Manipur, Meetei in particular for nearly nine months, filling the land with tears and cries.
The personnel of central forces who are deployed for protection of the land have been siding with those who are trying to disrupt the integrity of Manipur, he alleged.
While asserting that Manipur was forcefully annexed to India, Brojen denounced that the central security forces despatched by the union government lack sincerity and commitment to protect the people but aiding Kuki-Zo militants in destroying the unity of Manipur.
People need to fight the hidden agenda of the central government together as they (government) sided with Kuki militants by oppressing the indigenous people even though they know about the conflict very well, he continued, while adding that people should not celebrate the Republic Day as the central government has remained mute when Kuki militants violated ground rules of SoO agreement to disrupt the integrity of Manipur and demand a separate administration.
If one wants to pay homage and respect to those departed martyrs who sacrificed their lives for protecting the land and those injured, then they should hoist black flag on the day of Republic Day celebration, the convenor continued, while hastening to add that there is no valid reason to celebrate Republic Day when people of Manipur are suffering.
