PMMSY subsidies disbursed to 1503 fish farmers

Fisheries minister S Rajen Singh on Wednesday distributed Pradhan Man-tri Matsyas Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) cash benefits to 1503 fish farmers of Manipur through PFMS.
Speaking at the distribution function held at the Old Secretariat here, minister Rajen informed that the PMMSY beneficiaries were selected through proper screening at the district and state levels and this was the first time that the beneficiaries received their benefits directly through Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme.
Rajen further informed that the department of fisheries is focusing on carrying out blue revolution successfully for attaining self-sufficiency in fish production in the state.
Local and indigenous fishes will also be produced sufficiently in the coming years, he assured.
Loktak Livelihood Mission has been launched in order to encourage the fish farmers residing around Loktak Lake.
Loktak is their livelihood.
Areas under the Fisheries Department have been leased out to those interested fish farmers so as to provide income to the farmers and revenue to the government in return, the minister maintained.
He also announced that Sareng (Wallagoattu) will be produced in plenty from next year in addition to sufficient availability of indigenous fishes.
Research is being carried regarding Elisha fish for production in the state, the minister continued adding that Biofloc Fish Farming has been introduced in the state and fish farmers trained for success of the venture.
