Legal awareness prog organised

Imphal, January 22 2022:
Young Welfare Club (YWC), Langthabal Nam-bul Mapal in association with Manipur University Law Department organised a legal awareness programme on the topic of "Rights of Senior Citizens" at Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai Lairembi community hall on Saturday.
Presided over by YWC advisor Ngangbam Ibohal, the programme was attended by Imphal West Ad-hyaksha RK Taruni as chief guest; while Hiyangthang ZP member Sarangthem Silasana, Langthabal Nin-gombam GP pradhan NK Ganga, Langthabal Naorem leikai GP pradhan Aheibam Sunanda and MU Law department associate professor Dr Yumnam Premanan-da were present as guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Dr Yumnam Premananda noted that citizens who are above 60 years of age are the most important group in a society.
They have been provided numerous rights both under the international law and Constitution of India.
However, it is uncertain if they have complete access to these rights, he remarked, while observing the rising cases of elderly abuse in the society.
Stating that the programme was organised to spread awareness on rights of senior citizens, the associate professor recalled that the department had held a similar programme in Jiribam, while conveying that more such programmes will be organised in the future.
