Imphal, November 20 2021:
The National Library Week, observed by Manipur Library Association (MALA) from November 14 to 20, concluded at Manipur Public Library, Imphal on Saturday.
The valedictory function was attended by Manipur University of Culture librarian Dr Thounaojam Khomdon Singh and MALA president Kangjam Chaoba as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Df Khomdon highlighted the many benefits provided by a library and as such, stressed the need for modernising the libraries of the state.
In his speech, MALA president Kangjam Chaoba remarked that the Manipur Library Act continues to remain unimplemented although it was passed over 34 years ago by the state Assembly.
Thus, he appealed to the state government to put the Act into effect at the earliest.
He further appealed to the government to hold the Imphal Book Fair for this year.
During the function, Kshetrimayum Santa and Machinery Thoiba spoke about prominent librarians and the changing faces of libraries in present time.
