Imphal, April 20 2022: Functionaries of State Platform of Disable People Organisation, Manipur on Wednesday apprehended a group of 23 people including 17 women and a juvenile (male), on the charge of carrying out a fraudulent fund drive near Hatta Kangjeibung, Imphal East district and handed them over to Porompat police for initiation of legal action.

In this regard, the organisation's chief advisor Dr Sapam Jasowanta said that there have been many instances where unknown organisations indulging in fund drives in the name of differently abled people.

On Wednesday, a group of 23 people associated with two such bodies, namely New Hope Life Foundation for Disabilities (head office in Keibul Lamjao) and Disability Welfare Organisation, were caught carrying out a fund drive near Hatta in the name of differently abled people.

According to the group, a person is paid Rs 300 daily to carry out the fund drive.

As such, the chief advisor condemned the exploitation being done in the name of differently abled people and demanded strict action be taken up against the two organisations and all the people involved in the matter.
