State level multi-stakeholder consultation on SDGs held

Kangpokpi, May 19 2022:
The 2nd State Level Multi-Stakeholder Consultation on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and SDG Implementation Gap in Manipur was successfully organised at Hoikhonei conference hall of Thangkanphai village under Saikul sub-division, Kangpokpi district, on Thursday.
The consultation on SDG and SDG Implementation Gap was organised by National Foundation for India with the support of European Union and was collectively hosted by InSIDE North-East, IRDSO and NEST.
During the event attended by eminent leaders from different sectors and institutions, MK Lal, a representative of NFI, delivered a keynote speech on the overall context of SDG followed by SDO (Saikul) Bhungba Maibam, who gave an overview of the developmental challenges in Manipur with reference to Manipur hills/Kangpokpi district and Bhaskar Mutum of the planning department highlighting 'Manipur State SDG Vision 2030' and its current status on ground.
The second session had a panel discussion on the theme "Leaving No One Behind: Building Pathway for Peace in Northeast India via Engagement of CSO/Youth Leaders" .
The resource persons included Babloo Loitangbam (director, Human Rights Alert), Surjit Thokchom (project director, Towards an Alternative Vision of Education (SSTS), Rev Prim Vaiphei (president, All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO), Rev T Karang Maram (director, Peace & Development, MBC), Dr Achan Mungleng (researcher, consultant & trainer).
The panel discussion was moderated by Dr Thathang Vaiphei, assistant professor, Manipur University.
Discussions were held on the topics - Developing local capacities to accelerate SDGs localization: Challenges and way forward, Operationalizing of NEP 2020: pros & cons (challenges & opportunities), Peace Justice and Strong Institutions (Goal 16): Role of CSOs and Faith Based Organizations, Empowering Faith Based Organizations for Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions (Goal-16), Improving Gender Equality in Patriarchy society (Goal 5, 10) .
The event was then followed by a technical session facilitated by Sem Haokip (co-founder, Sawm-inn Education and Agritech Pvt Ltd) and Thangkam Lupheng (social activist and ex-MDC, Sadar Hills).

Participants were divided into groups to identify priority areas for future action plans and each group came up with recommendations to improve the implementation of SDGs and bridge the gap existing in achieving the SDGs, especially in the context of Saikul.
These recommendations will be submitted to the state's planning department with a hope that these recommendations will serve as a reference for the department concerned while making policies and layifig down action plan for a sustainable and inclusive Manipur.
