Imphal, December 17 2024:
A preliminary feasibility study has reportedly been conducted for an ambitious infrastructure project proposal aimed at transforming road connectivity in Thanga assembly constituency.
The initiative, spearheaded by Loktak Development Authority (LDA) chairman Moirangthem Asnikumar has brought together the state PWD, community leaders, and engineering experts to lay the foundation for significant development in the area.
The proposed project focuses on upgrading existing road networks and developing new ones, spanning approximately 32 kilometres.
Key features include widening, resurfacing, and upgrading roads to tarmac/asphalt standards.
Notable stretches to be developed include the Sendra-Thanga and Keibul-Thanga routes, Moirangkhunou-Keibul road, and Keibul-Kaishoi-Sendra road.
Enhancements such as retaining walls with geo-textile technology, roadside drainage systems, culverts, and bridges - ranging from mini to major - are part of the plan to ensure safety and longevity.
One of the standout features of the proposal is the construction of a new road connecting Thanga Salam Mangha (Pukhrambam Ching) with Mandha and Chingthi, extending further to Sekmaijin in Imphal West.
This route holds historic importance as a former trade path, facilitating commerce between Thanga and Kakching.
Revitalising this route will restore not just physical connectivity but also cultural and economic ties that have linked these communities for generations.
The enhanced road network will provide Thanga with direct access to districts like Bishnupur, Imphal West, Kakching, and Thoubal while linking it to major national highways such as Tiddim Road (NH 02), Mayai Lambi (NH 137/A), and the ASEAN Highway (NH 102).This improved connectivity is expected to unlock new opportunities in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange, integrating Thanga into the broader economic framework of the state and beyond.
Asnikumar expressed gratitude to CM Biren Singh, works minister Govindas Konthoujam, and the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) for their support in initiating this transformative project.
He also thanked the people and leaders of Thanga for their active participation in the feasibility study.
"This is not just a road project; it is a step toward reviving historical ties, boosting trade and tourism, and building a prosperous future for Thanga and its neighbouring districts," Asnikumar said.
"By cutting travel time from hours to mere minutes, this initiative will improve livelihoods, foster growth, and strengthen regional connections.
Together, we are creating a stronger and more unified region", he added.
