Samvardhinee Nyas, CAU launch anti-plastic campaign

Imphal, August 13 2022: Samvardhinee Nyas, Manipur Prant in association with Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal launched a campaign to end usage of plastic bags in the state as part of Patriots' Day observance, at Khwairamband Keithel here on Saturday.

The launch function was attended by Samvardhinee Nyas, Manipur Prant co-convenor Indira Oinam, CAU dean S Indira, Elite TV news editor Jit Ningombam and prominent members of Khwairamband Keithel.

Speaking on the occasion, Indira Oinam explained that the campaign was undertaken with the aim of reducing usage of plastics so as to save the environment.

As a part of the launching function, 4000 bags made of cloth were distributed in the market, she conveyed, while adding that the campaign will be taken up in other districts as well.

The co-convenor further said that the campaign involves weavers pf the state weaving and making the cloth bags, thereby helping them to generate another source of income.

The main objective of the campaign is to replace the plastic bags with environmental-friendly ones made from Kouna (reed) or paper, teaching young kids about the harmful effects of using plastic bags and promoting cloth bags in the interest of future generations.
