Awareness prog on menstrual hygiene held

Imphal, June 13 2022: As a part of observance of Menstrual Hygiene 2022 and World Environment Day 2022, awareness programmes were conducted at 25 locations in Chandel from June 5 to 11.The programmes conducted under the ministry of Jal Shakti's Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) was organised by PHED, Chandel in collaboration with Regional Development Society (REDS) headed by Chandel PHED executive engineer.

Participants included Chandel District AIDS Control officer Dr B Cingdeihnieng, Accelerate Chandel district project manager Newry Tongsin, Rural Women and Child Development Society (RWCDS) secretary K Neinu Monsang and JNIMS additional nursing superintendent Henei Hangsing.

Awareness sessions on hygiene management were conducted under the guidance of trained and experienced medical professionals.

There was also distribution of free biodegradable sanitary napkins along with instructions on safe disposal.

Local women of influential standings were enlisted and this encouraged better participation and turn out from the villagers.

In addition to these sessions, a door-to-door campaign was also conducted with REDS with an aim of spreading awareness through one-on-one interactions as well as the distribution of at least 5000 sanitary pads which are biodegradable and would be affordable to the general populace.
