Imphal, August 10 2024:
Kabui Union Manipur (KUM) has demanded clarification from Committee of Yelhoumee Furup convenor Achung Phaomei and secretary Rk Bijayalaxmi within August 14 for allegedly misleading the public by describing Kabui community as 'Naga' during observance of International Day of the World's Indigenous peoples.
In a release, Kabui Union Manipur (KUM) pointed out that Kabui community is an old community having its own religion and culture and does not belong to any nomenclature.
It denounced Yelhoumee Furup convenor Achung Phaomei and secretary Rk Bijayalaxmi for misleading the public by claiming Kabui as a part of Naga during the observance of International Day of the World's Indigenous peoples at Tanthapolis hall, Lamphel on Friday.
It further rejected the statement made by Yazing Vicisy during the event where he equated Kabui and Rongmei as one community and further asked which document was based for his argument.
The release further pointed out that Kabui is a community which cannot be separated from the history of Manipur and was included as Scheduled Tribes exclusively as 'Kabui' in 1950, while Rongmei was included in 2012.The union government recognises Kabui and Rongmei as different communities.
So, Achung Phaomei, Rk Bijayalaxmi and Yazing Vicisy should clarify within August 14 or will faced legal action, KUM cautioned, while asserting that no organisation or individual should try to harm the image of Kabui community.
Meanwhile, Purum Reim Council Manipur (PRCM) clarified that the council is working with Federation of Haomee and does not know Yelhoumee Furup.
While urging 'Yelhoumee Furup' convenor Achung Phaomei and secretary Rk Bijayalaxmi not to continue inclusion of 'Purum' community, it cautioned that all the consequences should be borne by those who disregard and do whatever they like considering Purum as a small community.
