Imphal, January 10 2025:
Clubs and organisations from the Kyamgei area have demanded an immediate halt to the ongoing construction of the Imphal Ring Road until proper land demarcation is completed, urging chief minister N Biren Singh to intervene in the matter.
During a press conference, Laishram Roben, vice president of the Kyamgei Youth Pioneers' Club, expressed that while residents welcome the Imphal Ring Road project, they are concerned about its execution.
He informed that ground works have commenced without proper demarcation, and added that local people want transparency in execution of the project with proper discussion among officials of the department, minister concerned and local leaders.
Roben stated that state land on both sides of the road should be clearly demarcated before any widening takes place, ensuring equal lengths from the center of the road.
He noted that a memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East in 2021, highlighting that local input was not sought during the initial demarcation process.
The residents are calling for a joint survey of the affected lands to finalise the demarcation for the project in the Kyamgei area, he added.
