JNIMS Director calls for joint efforts to eradicate TB

JNIMS director professor L Deben has said that all departments under health sector need to work collectively to completely eliminate Tuberculosis from the face of the globe.
As the chief guest of a one-day workshop on national Tuberculosis elimination programme jointly organised by Paediatric Association of Manipur (PAM) and JNIMS Paediatric department at JNIMS conference hall on Saturday, professor Deben said that all the departments under health sector need to work collectively and help each other so as to eliminate TB from the face of the globe as the disease continues to be highly communicable and risky for human life.
According to professor L Deben, altogether 24 lakhs people were detected with TB in India in the year 2019 and the figure dipped to 18 lakhs in 2020 and 12 lakhs in 2022.WHO along with Central and state governments have been launching different campaigns to eliminate TB since 2017 with the main target to eliminate the disease completely by 2025.He then stressed the need for organising more workshops and programmes on TB elimination with stakeholders concerned to make the people aware.
The workshop was also attended by PAM president Dr Kameshor, Central IAP executive body member Dr Shyamkumar Laishram and noted doctors from within and outside Manipur.
