AR conducts cleanliness drive; anti-drug campaign

Assam Rifles conducted an extensive cleanliness drive at Sehlon, Aibol Joupi and Old Samtal village as part of the nationwide Swachhata Pakhwada initiative.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the initiative emphasised the importance of cleanliness, and hygiene in the surrounding, among the local community.
The events conducted under the initiative included cleanliness drives at AR camp as well as outside the camp.
The drive aimed to instil a sense of responsibility toward community, importance of proper sanitation, waste management and good hygiene.
Local residents actively participated in the event showcasing appreciation to the initiative, it added.
Meanwhile, in order to create awareness amongst the local residents regarding the ill effects of drug abuse, AR organised an anti-drug awareness campaign at Meiring village, Kamjong district, another release by PRO IGAR (S) said.
The release informed that the campaign jointly organised by the Meiring village authority and Assan Rifles personnel was attended by 32 villagers from Meiring village including four, representatives of the village authority.
During the event, a focused effort was made to raise awareness among attendees about the severe and far-reaching consequences of drug abuse.
The significance of fostering a drug-free society for the well-being of future generations was emphasised.
Additionally, they were guided through a range of strategies to combat drug addiction, including professional treatment options, counselling services, support groups and the role of self-determination and community support in the recovery process, it stated.
The release further conveyed that the session aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to recognise and address the signs of addiction, inspire proactive measures, and encourage them to contribute to creating a healthier, addiction-free society.
The event culminated with a pledge by all the attendees to stay away from the scourge of drug abuse.
They also assured that they would motivate their youth to stay away from this bane of the society.
