Jiribam, August 04 2021:
Villagers of Latingkhal in Jiribam district blocked the Jiribam-Tipaimukh road on Wednesday demanding not to relocate the camp of 37 Assam Rifles from Multan Singh Pradan bazar, Latingkhal.
The 37 AR camp has been ordered by the authority concerned to shift to another location.
But the residents around the camp are against the move fearing resurgence of anti-social and insurgency activities if the AR camp is removed.
As the Assam Rifles could not give any assurance over the matter, the aggrieved Latingkhal villagers blocked the Jiribam-Tipaimukh road.
The blockade took place after a higher authority of Assam rifles visited Multan Singh Pradan Bazar camp and subsequently left the camp without meeting with the locals who had been waiting for him at the bazar shed since morning.
Later, after getting the report of a public gathering at Pradan Bazar, a team of Jiribam district police led by additional SP AK Sadananda and OC Jiribam po lice station L Khogen Singh rushed to the spot.
The OC persuaded the public to meet the AR CO at Kadamtala and assured them that even if the Assam Rifles had left the camp state security forces would be posted there to protect the villagers.
