Police penalise SOP violators; issue warning

Imphal, May 31 2021:
The police department continues to launch crackdown on violators of guidelines and restrictions issued by the government and the State Disaster Management Authority in connection with Covid-19 pandemic, including failure to wear mask in public places, failure to maintain social distancing and spitting in public places, etc, to prevent the spread of the virus in the state.
In a press release, Manipur police department Covid-19 nodal officer IGP (Ops) E Priyokumar Singh informed that 188 persons were detained during drive at different places on Monday but later released them after issuing warning and slapping monetary penalty.
A total fine of Rs 59,600 was collected from them, the release informed.
The nodal officer also warned that those who violate the guidelines and restrictions shall be dealt with strong legal action under National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws.
On the other hand, there were traffic jams in the Bazar area during the brief curfew relation hours on Monday as vehicles coming to procure goods and commodities from wholesalers in Dharamshala literally crammed the main market place.
