Imphal, September 29 2023:
Charging him of inciting violence, Kangleipak Students' Federation (KSA) president Sukham Bidyananda, who is one of the leaders of the 6 student bodies, was assaulted by the police on Thursday.
The student bodies have demanded a departmental enquiry into the incident and action against the accused police officer.
Addressing media persons at Kwakeithel office of AIMS on Thursday, coordinator of six student bodies Leishangthem Lamyanba Meitei said that the incident took place in Loklaobung area around 8:20 pm Wednesday as Bidyananda was returning back home after taking part in a press conference.
He further informed that the security personnel deployed at Loklaobung stopped and assaulted him without any reason.
On informing that he was a student activist, the police personnel continued thrashing him alleging that they (student activists) are involved in inciting violence in the state.
Lamyanba condemned high handedness of Manipur police and assault of the student activist.
If the people in uniform consider that by assaulting student activists and creating fear among the people of own race could end the crisis in the state then it is very unfortunate for the state as well as for the Meitei community.
He also stated that an administrative enquiry into the incident should be initiated and necessary action taken against the Manipur police official.
There are evidence of violating code of conduct in controlling mob in the state.
Moreover, crimes, atrocities and state terrorism carried out against the public should be stopped, he said.
