Imphal, March 26 2025:
Internally displaced students and their parents, who are taking shelter in various relief camps across the state, have highlighted the grievances faced by the IDPs, and urged student bodies to address the same.
During a meeting held at the Akampat Relief Camp on Wednesday, one Laikhuram Inao Meitei, who used to reside at Moreh Bazar, accentuated difficulties faced by IDP students in accessing education amid the ongoing conflict in the state.
He mentioned that, in addition to academic issues, these students are now struggling for admission and clearing monthly fees.
He pointed out that the Rs 1000 monthly stipend previously provided by the government to IDPs has been discontinued.
Furthermore, the promise made by the former chief ministef to provide Rs 3000 per month, at a rate of Rs 100 per day, has not been translated into action.
Inao also highlighted that, due to the inability of parents in relief camps to secure stable jobs, they are unable to purchase books and uniforms for their children.
At the same time, the inability to pay admission and monthly tuition fees has further exacerbated their problems.
Inao then urged the student bodies in the state to address these issues in the interest of IDP students.
