Kom Union approves resignation of Haopu Kom

Imphal, August 21 2021: While informing people and civil society organisations that it has decided to accept resignation of vice president M Chungkhao Kom (Haopu Kom), Kom Union Manipur has appealed to community leaders and CSOs not to accept any public statement made bv Haopu in the name of the union in future.

Addressing media persons in this regard on Saturday at Palace Gate here.

Union president L Kaikam Kom said that Chungkhao (Haopu Kom) of Chum Keirap Kom village presently residing at KR Lane.

Imphal East resigned from membership of the union and the post of vice president through a Whatsapp message sent on Mav 6 this vear.

After thorough discussion, the Union decided to approve resignation of Haopu and so, he is no more related with the union anvmore, Kaikam said and appealed to community leaders and CSOs of Manipur not to accept any statement of Haopu Kom.

Regarding an issue relating to Ichum Keirap Kom village, Haopu Kom uploaded a message through a Whatsapp group of the villageon Feb ruary 21, 2021 stating that democracy is only for 40 households of Ichum Khul (village) who hold land rights while the remaining households have no rights including administration of the village.

The Whatsapp message up -loaded bv Haopu Kom led to conflict among villages but Kom Union Manipur resolved the matter as it was within the community and an under standing was reached during a meeting held on July 10.2021 involving Kuki Inpi Moltan Ihang Jao at the residence of Ichum Keirap Kom chairman.

Even after reaching the understanding, a meeting for Khopurup Declaration led by village chairman was held on July 7.2021 in the absence of village authority secretary and without informing villagers.

When villagers simply raised voice for not informing them for the meeting, the village chairman reacted violently and this led to conflict, Kaikam claimed.

He further said that Kom Union Manipur also strongly condemns the article written bv one I Rekhupsong Kom and published in some local dailies and his observation that Kom people are living like refugees and the community is unable to live as Kom was not true and baseless as no community of Manipur work against the interest of Kom community till date and L Rekhupsong Kom should understand that Kom Union is for the welfare of the community.
