Meeteis outside Manipur should not live meekly: UCM

Manipuri Meeteis settled outside the state should not live in a lowly or meek manner, United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Joychandra Konthoujam has stated.
The inaugural function of a three-day North East Cultural Exchange Programme cum handloom Mela was jointly organised by UCM, Puthiba Welfare and Cultural Society Agartala and Berimura Manipuri Youth Association at Berimura in Tripura on Friday.
Speaking at the occasion, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujamna said that the Meetei society lacks nothing and as such, urged all concerned to help preserve and promote the rich art and cultural heritage of Manipur across the world.
He continued that the Meetei community is a small community and further urged for increasing the numbers.
During the fair, which was attended by Meetei people settled in Berimura, several stalls were set up by the Manipur-based Handloom and Handicraft Society.
The artistes of Performing Art Centre, Singjamei Wang-ma Pebiya Pandit Leikai and Tapasya also presented cultural performances.
