Imphal, August 17 2021:
Apunba Ireipak-ki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) Education and Academic Affairs secretary Longjam Thoithoiba Meitei has cautioned colleges in the state which are affiliated to Manipur University not to charge additional money for examination form-fill up of students appearing for the BA, BSc and BCom examinations, aside from the fee rate fixed by the varsity.
In a statement, the students' body remarked that the Covid-19 pandemic has heavily affected the state and the livelihood of the people, leading many parents to wonder about the future of their children owing to the financial instability.
Nonetheless, many are continuously pushing on with the aim of providing education to their children at all cost.
Amidst such situation, some private colleges and aided-colleges have fixed the price of examination form fill-up quite high, thus amounting to commercialisation of education.
Cautioning the colleges to stop such acts immediately, the secretary said AIMS will be looking into the matter and "educating" the colleges as well as the wealthy people concerned.
It then appealed to the people to extend their support to any future activity undertaken by AIMS with regard to the issue, while further urging for support in stopping the commercialisation of education and treating students as commodities.
