Thoubal, January 16 2025:
A sit-in protest was held at the Kairembikhok Lamkhai waiting shed on Thursday in denunciation of the unbearable monetary demands and threats to the villagers.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, meira paibi leader Laishram Sunibala and Furniture Association member Thangjam Brajakishore expressed strong resentment against imposing unbearable monetary demands on villagers of Kairembikhok, majority of whom are daily wagers.
They further explained that around 80 households in the village rely on furniture-making to support their families, with no other resources available in the area.
The village was severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the damage caused by storms and heavy rains.
The village has also been grappling with challenges since the crisis broke out on May 3, 2023 .
Despite these hardships, the villagers continue to contribute to the collective effort during the crisis.
In light of these circumstances, they called for the cessation of the unjust monetary demands.
