Indigenous Wrestling Competition likely in October

Senapati District Wrestling Association is set to organise State Level Indigenous Wrestling Competition, 2022.Although a definite date has not been set so far, the event may take place in the last week of October.
A team comprising of the Senapati District Wrestling Association, Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM) and delegates representing the 5 major tribes of Senapati district had reportedly met the state chief minister on Tuesday in this matter and reportedly discussed numerous issues for development of sports in the district as well as the coming Golden Jubilee and District Olympic Games.
It may be noted that District Level Open Wrestling Competition was introduced in Senapati district in the year, 1982 which was sponsored by the Manipur North Autonomous District Council in commemoration of its Raising Day annually.
Since then, the District Level Open Wrestling Competition reportedly continued till 1993.The Senapati District Wrestling Association had organised the District Level Open Wrestling Competition till 2004.An Open Wrestling Competition was held from 2005-07 and in 2009.District Level Open Wrestling Competition returned in 2011 and ADC, Senapati sponsored the district level wrestling in 2016-17.The last wrestling competition was reportedly held in 2018 under different name "Open Indigenous Wrestling Competition, 2018" with wrestlers from Nagaland state also participating.
This time, the State Level Indigenous wrestling competition, 2022 comes back after a hiatus from 2019 to 2021 due to Covid-19.The district wrestling association also invites all wrestlers of the state to prepare and participate at the said competition slated for last week of October this year.
Sources also added that necessary information for the wrestlers will be announced through social media and print media from time to time.
The Senapati District Wrestling Association also extended heartfelt gratitude to the state chief minister for all his understanding and for his assurance for assistance towards organising the State Level Indigenous Wrestling Competition, 2022 .
