Sareng fingerlings brought from Kolkata

Imphal, June 13 2022:
Under the initiative of All Manipur Scientific Farmers' Association (AMSFA) and in collaboration with state's Fishery Department, around 4500 fingerlings of Sareng (wallago attu), which belong to the same species of local Sareng, were brought to the state from Kolkata on Monday.
Speaking to the media, AMSFA president Premananda Meitei informed that the Sareng fingerlings were brought to the state under their initiative with the sole objective of producing and realising the objective of self-sufficiency in Sareng fish in the state.
He also informed that more such fingerlings are expected to arrive within short notice and added that any person interested in rearing the local Sareng variety may contact the association or Fishery Department through the mobile numbers-9378157652, 7005150679, 8837428241 or 9856677522 .
The Sareng fingerlings will be reared in ponds in Phoubakchao area of Imphal West district, he said, adding that if more such fingerlings are brought in then there will be sufficient yield of local Sareng.
