Govt urged to check pest menace in Tousem

Tamenglong, June 12 2021:
Vast tracts of standing crops growing in the jhum fields of Tousem sub-division under Tamenglong district were found destroyed by pest infection and rodent menace.
The worst affected agricultural sites are in Charinapang, New Chingkao, Rangkekiulong, Kaiphundai, Aben and Longsai villages.
According to its information & publicity secretary Chunliang Pamei, a team Village Authority Chairman Council (VACC), Tousem, had made a spot enquiry following complaints made by the villagers and found the crops damaged in different locations.
In this connection, VACC Tousem has made an appeal for early intervention from the state government side as there is fear of famine in Tousem sub-division.
People of this area rely on jhuming cultivation and it is their main source of income.
They want the government to arrange alternate means of livelihood for them and ensure the economic growth of this affected area, he said.
