Bishnupur, August 10 2024:
The Government has remained blind towards the plight of villagers in Tor bung and Phougakchao Ikhai, which have been the epicentre of the ongoing conflict, claimed Ibudhou Thangjing Pana Moirang Sub Division convener Y Tomba Singh.
Speaking at a public meeting held at Phougakchao Ikhai Mamang community hall on Friday in connection with firing of bullets and bombs by Kuki militants towards Torbung and Phougakchao Ikhai on August 8, Y Tomba said that the firing was carried out from an area near the post of 9 Assam Rifles at Kotlen Khuga Mapal.
Despite that, AR did not do anything which is very disappointing.
The silence of the government against AR which is openly supporting Kuki millitants is highly condemnable, he asserted.
Tomba also mentioned that some Meetei residents may have returned back to their homes in Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung, but the August 8 incident has made them afraid to go back until adequate security is provided.
He noted that Thamnapokpi villagers are also living in fear since the Kuki militants had fired 5-6 rounds towards Thamnapokpi under Moirang police station at around 6:45 pm on August 8.Tomba further informed that the resolutions adapted in the meeting for swift resolution of present ethnic conflict will be substituted as memorandum to the Bishnupur deputy commissioner, Bishnupur SP, DGP, chief minister N Biren and Union home minister Amit Shah.
The public meeting was also attended by Ibudhou Thangjing pana Moirang Sub Division advisor L Gopal, Torbung and Phougakchao Ikhai Peace Protection Committee secretary Kh Basanta, president I Amumcha, Phougakchao Ikhai and Torbung Apunba Meira Paibi Lup secretary K Kegeshana and Torbung Gram Panchayat former up-pradhan L Ibohal Singh as presidium members.
