Ukhrul BJP leader appeals for peaceful ADC polls

Expressing optimism that the much-awaited ADC elections are taking place later this year, Michael Shaiza, state co-in-charge of political programme & meetings, BJP Manipur Pradesh; on Tuesday appealed to people of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts to exercise their voting rights in a free and fair manner in the upcoming ADC polls.
Talking to the media in Ukhrul town, Shaiza stated that free and fair elections are what the general public want during the elections.
Referring to the upcoming ADC elections, he stressed the need for allowing all the legitimate electorates in the hills districts of Manipur to practice their universal adult franchise without fear and intimidation.
He appealed to public to feel proud of who they are and to realize that the fundamental values and rights of the people help in running the nation in a meaningful and peaceful manner.
In a democracy, the biggest festival is election but unfortunately people are led astray by false narratives and beliefs which in turn are harming democratic set up, said Shaiza, who is also chairman of Wino-tang, Ukhrul.
At the same time, Shaiza also called for promoting trust and peace among the people.
As good Samaritans and fellow humans, each one of us should support, encourage and help one another in making our lives and the world a lot better place to live in with forgiveness and love, he said.
While maintaining that unity is the strength of the society, Shaiza said that electorates should not succumb to false promises, narratives and aspirations of a few but need to remain united and dedicated to core beliefs and aspirations.
Talks are doing the round that the long-delayed ADC elections would take place not later than September this year, though no formal notifications of the date have been issued so far.
It may be recalled that the six ADCs in the state's hill districts completed their term on November 30, 2019 .
In 2021, the state cabinet had also approved to conduct the elections to the autonomous district councils including the four newly-created districts of Kamjong, Tengnoupal, Pherzawl, and Noney.
