Imphal, August 08 2024:
A public meeting to deliberate on resolutions adopted during an earlier workshop held on June 22 to 23 pertaining to adverse impact of changing trends in rituals from birth to death will be conducted by Organising Committee on Numit Nini Khanna Neinaba Meepham, Imphal at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, here, on August 10.Addressing the media at Thangjing Hall of Manipur Press Club on Thursday, Committee member Mayengbam Joy said that the per capita income of Manipur has been drastically affected by the burgeoning cost subsequent to changes in the age-old rituals observed from birth to death by the people.
Lamenting that at a time when the state's economy has been seriously affected unrestrained spending is hitting hard the public, he mentioned that taking into account of such hardships, like-minded groups have come together to start a campaign for reducing expenses related to religious rituals.
M Joy also recounted that a two-day workshop was held at Manipur University's Manipur Institute of Management Studies (MIMS) on June 22 to 23 to deliberate on the negative effects of rising cost of rituals.
As a follow up of the workshop, a public meeting would be organised on August 10 for public consensus on the matter, he said and appealed to public, CSOs, religious, club and meira paibi leaders to attend the meeting to be moderated by retired art and culture commissioner K Radhakumar.
