Sit-in staged against construction firm

Kakching, February 03 2022:
Maintaining that the company entrusted for construction of the road should be held responsible for the death of CJM Yengkhom Somorjit of Kakching Mayai Leikai, who died in a road accident that occurred near Wangjing Uningkhong along NH 102, locals along with students' organisations including AIMS, DESAM and KSA staged sit-in protest at Ibudhou Naohallai Mamang, Kakching Bazar on Thursday.
Speaking on the sidelines, one of the protesters, named Kshetrimayum Surjit contended that the accident occurred due to negligence of the construction company.
There are also reports of accidents occurring at the same spot and same day Somorjit died.
As such, the company should be held responsible for the loss of precious human life, he contended.
Surjit continued that Somorjit had taken various roles for the development of Kakching.
His demise is a great loss for Manipur, he lamented.
Demanding appropriate actions against the construction company, he urged government and construction companies to put up warning signage at work sites for safety of all.
