Imphal, June 01 2022:
A joint meeting of chiefs of T Bongmol, Chongjang, Betuk, T Minou, Haolenphai, Govajang, B Bongjang and Molphei villages of Tengnoupal district held on Monday unanimously objected the recent order of the home department to establish police stations and outposts in the area.
A joint statement in this regard informed that the meeting resolved to oppose the order for establishment of police station and police outpost in their villages, while contending that the order was issued without consulting them or without giving prior information.
The villages have their own village authority, youth clubs and women's wings, which have been activated to carry out campaign against drugs and they disapprove the policy of "arbitrary" establishment of police stations or outposts in the name of war on drugs.
It informed that Assam Rifles is competent and relevant enough to check and control movement of contraband drugs and to protect the border areas and its inhabitants.
They are alert and active round the clock, dependable and the villagers feel safe and secure under them.
As such the need for additional security force does not arise.
On the contrary, the villagers do not have faith and confidence in the state police force considering the rampant practice of bribery and involvement of state police personnel in drug peddling, the statement said, while adding that posting state police force in the area is unnecessary and would only bring more harm than good.
It further informed that T Minou and Betuk mentioned in the order had been re-christened as T Motha and J Munnomjang villages respectively.
