Rape case convict sentenced to 7-year Rl

A 55 years old man named Huidrom Jilla of Hiyanglam Tera Pishak, who was earlier convicted by the court already in a rape case registered at Kakching police station, has been sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by the special judge fast track special court No 1.During sentence hearing of the case on Thursday, defence counsel submitted before the court that Jilla surrendered to police after the incident happened in 2016 and extended cooperation to prosecution and remained in judicial custody since September 14, 2016.Apart from this, the defence counsel prayed for reducing the sentence term as the offender is approaching 60 years of age.
However, the special additional PP appealed for awarding sentence which could be of knowledge and lesson for the people in view of the offender torturing the uneducated village girl while raping her.
After patient hearing of both the sides, the court sentenced Jilla to seven years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.He has to spend in jail for an additional three months if unable to pay the fine.
The court also ruled that the offender's stay in judicial custody since September 14, 2016 will be commuted from the total sentence period and will have to stay in jail till September 15, 2023.The court also directed that Jilla must pay the fine within seven days and the same amount should be handed over to the victim.
