Present generation should help preserve Umang lai: H Hiyainu

Nongthombam Hiyainu, wife of CM N Biren Singh, on Wednesday stressed the need for the future generation to protect the Umang Lai (site sylvan deities), which have existed in the state since time immemorial.
Speaking as chief guest of the handing over function of the shrine of Konthoujam Lairembi after completion of necessary repairing/installation work, organised by Konthoujam Lairembi Chaokhat Thourang Marup on Wednesday, Hiyainu reminded all concerned that the sacred groves where the sylvan deities are worshipped in the state are disappearing owing to the passage of time.
However, Konthoujam Lairembi Chaokhat Thourang Marup has been working hard to preserve Konthoujam Lairembi, which is laudable, she said and urged the people to take a proactive role in preservation of the sacred groves, considering it as an integral part of worshipping the gods.
Delivering the presidential speech, advisor to CM and Konthoujam AC MLA Dr Sapam Ranjan appreciated the departments concerned for helping in the preservation of the sacred site.
Commenting on the detection of one Omicron positive case in the state, Dr Ranjan urged the people to adhere to Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB), while adding that the government is taking up necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
The function was attended by Tourism director W Ibohal; PHED executive engineer K Ibochou; special contractors G kakhangai Kabui and Konthoujam Jiban as guests of honour.
Meanwhile, Uchekon Nongpok GP pradhan Nongmaithem Jadumani (Abo) inaugurated a Meira Shanglen of Semgatminnashi Nupi Lup, Kongba, constructed by Works minister Th Biswajit, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, SNL convenor Aheibam ongbi Medhabati Leima conveyed that the land for the Shanglen was donated by Aheibam Nabakumar and his wife Aheibam Mary, and construction of the Shanglen (shed) was funded by minister Th Biswajit.
The inauguration cum handing over function was attended by Nongmaithem Jadumani as chief guest, All Manipur Press Association president Thongam Nabachandra as president and Women Association for Social Economic Development president RK Tharaksana as guest of honour.
