Thoubal, November 29 2024:
Internally displaced persons (IDPs) staying in various relief camps stage sit- in protest at Wangjing Keithel by blocking half the NH-102 (Imphal-Moreh road) on Friday demanding that the government construct houses on their own land, allow them to return to their ancestral homes and resolve the ongoing conflict.
The sit-in was participated by IDPs from Moreh, Serou, Sugnu, Churachandpur and other areas, who fled attacks by Kuki militants and are presently staying at Wangjing Kodompokpi, Lamding Higher Secondary School and Rice Research Station, Khangabok relief camps.
Speaking to media per sons, a woman protestor urged the government to resolve the crisis, so that they can return to their homes, no matter hardships and risks they are likely to face.
Reminding all concerned that they have been reduced to 'refugees' in their own homeland for almost two years, and questioning how long they shall stay in relief camps, she asserted that in-spite of the government planning to construct houses for people staying in relief camps, the IDPs would prefer that the government rebuild houses on their own lands.
