Fire guts house in Chandel

Imphal, February 22 2024:
The house of one St Koningwar Anal (68) of Thangbung Minou village in Chandel district has been reduced to ashes in a fire incident around 1:25 PM Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by T Minou Village Authority, the fire is suspected to have started from the "Meiphu" (charcoal burner) used by St Koningwar Anal, a paralysed BP patient.
The fire rapidly spread, engulfing not only the family's belongings but also neighbouring properties, including an Activa scooter and a Maruti Van belonging to St Ningwar Anal.
Amidst the chaos, Koningwar's wife Thomningwar managed to evacuate her husband from the burning house to a safer location.
The timely intervention of Pastor Wng Thumdar and nearby construction workers also aided in moving him to a further secure area.
Additionally, personnel of Chandel police station led by the OC evacuated him to the district hospital where he was given treatment.
Fire service teams prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent residences, averting further catastrophe.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the victim's family, village authority members extended heartfelt appreciation to the Chandel PS, the fire brigade team, DC, executive magistrates, ANTA executives, leaders, friends, relatives, neighbours, and the community for their support and assistance during the challenging time.
