IFM proposes compensation to flood-hit farmers

While pointing out that the pre- monsoon downpour for the last 20 days has flooded many areas of the state affecting cultivation of vegetables, Irabot Foundation Manipur (IFM) has appealed to department concerned for collecting necessary report so as to initiate steps for compensating the farmers affected by flooding.
In a release, IFM secretary Kh Gopen said that farmers, who are toiling to make the state self-reliant and improve the economy of the state, have been drastically affected by the pre-monsoon downpour.
A team of IFM is inspecting several flooded farmlands, he informed while adding that around 200 'paris' of horticultural crops planted in Imphal East district have been damaged.
The affected areas included Dev Singh Loukon, Uyumpok, Taretkhul, Nongsum, Lamboikhul, Mamang Loubuk, Thamboukhol Loukol, Humaikhong, Tairenmakhong, Thingelcha and Leikai Loukol.
Khoijuman, Toubul, Kwasiphai of Bishnupur district and Kakching Khulapat, Kakching Minaiching and Kakching Lainung mamang of Kakching district too have been flooded by the pre-monsoon rainfall, affecting plantation of vegetables in these areas, he continued.
In view of such a grave situation, Gopen reiterated that department concerned compile a report and initiate necessary steps to compensate for the loss at the earliest.
