Body mulls poll boycott over fund block

Thoubal, January 19 2022: Thoubal District Panchayat Parishad, a united body of pradhans and members of 25 Gram Panchayats of the district, has warned of boycotting the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections in case the state government does not release the pending funds of Panchayat by January 25.Addressing media persons at Thoubal DC Complex on Wednesday, Parishad spokesperson and Sangaiyumpham Part 1 GP pradhan Md Zakir stated that the BJP led state government has not released tied and untied funds for second instalment of the 15th Finance Commission, 2020-2021.On top of withholding the said funds for the past eight months, the government is yet to release the State Finance Commission 2021- 2022 and MGNREGA, 2020-2021 liability released by the centre amounting to more than Rs 160 crore along with state matching share, he decried.

The press conference was also attended by pradhan and members of 25 GPs of Thoubal district.
