Committee calls for halting Tamenglong-Mahur road work

Imphal, September 18 2024: Citing several reasons, Affected Land & Property Owner's Committee has submitted ultimatums to union minister Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, chief secretary of Manipur and Tamenglong district's deputy commissioner demanding to stop the ongoing construction of Tamenglong Mahur road (Tamenglong-Jiri River) on NH-137 from September 22 .

In the ultimatum, the committee highlighted non-acquisition of land within the jurisdiction of Tamenglong to Jiri River on NH-137 of Tamen-glong-Mahur Road.

It alleged that construction of Tamenglong Mahur road (Tamenglong-Jiri River) on NH-137 is in violation of National Highways Act 1956 and Land Acquisition Acts of 2013 and initiated without notification under section 19(1) or 3A to 3H and damaged many standing properties.

Moreover, individuals who were helming the affairs in the district issued the no objection certificate without the consent of genuine/actual land owners, thereby creating problems, it added.
