Imphal, July 16 2022:
DESAM has appealed to the government to increase seat intake capacity of government higher secondary school to accommodate more students.
Addressing a press meet at its Kwakeithel office here on Saturday, DESAM president Leishangthem Lamyanba said that there are several students, who are not getting admissions in government schools and it is time the government frame a proper policy to resolve such issues.
Instead of limiting the intake capacity, the government can increase the capacity to accommodate more students, he said while drawing attention of the government to address plight of the young students.
Noting that a new trend of quota system is entering the government schools lately, Lamyanba said that DESAM strongly opposes such system and it will not entertain any request seeking admission in any schools.
He also appealed to the public not to tarnish reputation of the students' bodies and their ideologies by dragging them into such a system.
On the other hand, except for a few schools, the people of the state are losing trust on government educational institutions and it is time the policy makers find the reason behind such sorry situation.
Though the government is taking up School Fagathansi mission with the objective to improve government schools, the real objective of the mission seems to change towards 'Contractor Fagathansi', he expressed while suggesting that apart from infrastructure development, rationalisation of teachers could be one of the most important factors that will help in improving government schools.
