Senapati, February 13 2025:
Miscreants snatched keys of five trucks transporting 'Dimapur sand' near Sekmai on February 9 around 9.30 am, leaving all the vehicles stranded in the area since then.
Registration numbers of the trucks whose keys have been taken away are NL07AA 1386, NL07AA 5499, NL07AA 1141, NL07A 7435 and NL07AA 2503 .
All the 6-wheel trucks were enroute to Imphal for unloading.
According to Senapati District Truck Owners' Association and Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union, drivers of the five trucks were intercepted by a Swift Dzire car while they were heading towards Imphal at a spot near Sekmai where the keys were forcibly taken.
The drivers were asked to contact the Manipur Sand Union, indicating that some KCP cadres were involved in snatching the keys.
It may be mentioned that more than 50 trucks loaded with Dimapur sand owned by Naga proprietors are stranded within Sekmai area since February 7 due to illegal tax demanded by unknown armed persons.
Drivers have reported being asked to pay a fine of Rs 50,000, with threats of having their trucks set on fire if they refuse to comply.
Meanwhile, Senapati District Truck Owners' Association and Senapati District Truck Drivers' Union have threatened to cease transporting essential goods and commodities if collection of illegal tax does not stop.
The two bodies further warned that unchecked illegal taxation along the highway could compel them to launch intense agitation in near future in case authorities concerned do not take up necessary measures to ensure free passage to transporters of essential goods and commodities to the state capital.
